I love my job, I really do. However, the strength and conditioning and sports performance industries can be a hard place to be sometimes. Universities are pumping out more and more graduates from S&C, sports science, coaching and rehab courses, the industry is expanding into sub divisions as we learn more about performance and prehab/rehab, and technologies are advancing at a rate of knots.
When you combine these factors you see highly competitive jobs that require a vast array of skills, ongoing knowledge of new technologies and research, and don't necessarily pay much. In addition to this, unless you land a job with a full sports medicine/performance team you will more than likely balance a few roles, such as strength coach, rehabilitation coach and sports analyst. I'm not trying to whinge here, I'm just saying, it can be a hard place to be!
My goal with Strength Coach Nause, is to help coaches. As part of the Sportland Legacy Group we discussed many of the common issues, worries and problems coaches run into. The thing that stood out to me was how often time limitations and knowledge limitations pop up. Below is just a short overview of issues around time:
Not enough time to actually coach
Losing family time doing data analysis in the evening
Not enough time to stay on top of research
No time to collect, analyse and present data
Time commitments aren't worth the salary
Inputting data and writing programmes very time consuming
The list was longer than this! In terms of knowledge, it was a similar story:
Don't know what they're looking for once they've collected all their data
Over thinking programming
So many technologies to understand (different brands)
Imposter syndrome
Where do I even start to learn data/ computing skills
Again, my goal with Strength Coach Nause is to help coaches. Therefore, the most logical thing to do is to try and solve these problems. All of the products, blogs, information and tools I create are with the aim of making your life as a coach easier. If I can help save you time, give you easily digestible (more importantly, usable) information and show you how to automate and streamline your process, then I'll be a happy man!
Currently we have the:
Multi Athlete Lift Logbook (Excel tutorial)
+ Interactive Wellness Dashboard coming soon
I would love to know how to improve these products for you as a coach. I'd also love to hear any tools/builders you would also find helpful! If you have any thoughts or questions, please leave a comment under this post or email me at strengthcoachnause@gmail.com
